Digital Transition

Italy will capitalise on the potential of a digitalised industry. The Transition 4.0 National Plan has the goal of supporting investments, digitalisation of industrial processes as well as the improvement of workers’ productivity.

Moreover, the Italian digital revolution is experiencing a remarkable acceleration thanks to the substantial investments of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, aimed at achieving five objectives by 2026:

  • 70% of the population using public digital identity
  • 70% of the population with digital skills
  • 75% of Italian public administrations with cloud services
  • 80% of essential public services provided online
  • 100% of Italian families and businesses with access to ultra-broadband.

On the indutrial level, Italy already represents the 2ⁿᵈ largest robot market in the EU and 6ᵗʰ  worldwide, with almost 12,000 units installed in 2022.

Green Transition

Italy is committed to position its economy as a leader in the transition towards a more sustainable future, by allocating over 30% of the funds of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan – approximately 60 billion euros - to completing Italy’s green and ecological transition. With investments in renewable energy sources and energy efficiency measures across the entire manufacturing industry, the aim is to not only reduce the environmental footprint, but also to create economic growth and job opportunities through an eco-friendly approach.

In addition, Italy is taking significant steps to strengthen its leading role by promoting a circular economy, waste reduction and sustainable agriculture. In 2020 Italy secured its leadership among EU countries with the highest waste recycling rate, amounting to 83.2%.
